Yo! Hotmail! er, excuse me... "windows live"

Dear whoever really controls hotmail/msn/mslive:

If you are not going to develop code and web apps that are universally accessible, how can you have a great product? Cross-platform browsers provide a uniform user experience, but cross-platform browsers do not support your proprietary code, leaving these power-users without features they value, and often without hope that a formerly universal services such as hotmail will ever be again compatible with the non-microsoft portions of their lives. What are you trying to do - alienate portions of the public?

Our world is unifying: this is evident even in your own organization. Why are you unifying apart from the rest of the universe? "IBM compatible" used to be the standard for non-apple PCs; then IBM began a road of deviation from the standards that propelled them to leadership in the industry. Now how many homes have a box labeled "IBM"? none. IBM's faltering consumer products division is now Lenovo.

Don't be stupid. be universal. Um, well... kinda like mac. Which is now so universal you can run windows on it. Irony? No, its a step you take on the road to everywhere. Thats why, in the long run, it was done.

The mac on my desk didn't power up today, the PC was on all day. Functionally they are the same to me, except for my co-worker borrowing and losing the mouse from the mac. And replacing it with one that has "Dell" on the outside of it. I use the PC because thats what i turned on. And when i go on the web i want that not to matter. Is it so grand and lofty of a wish?

scripture with commentary

These scripture quotations are taken from "the Message" translation. I dont know the copyright info, and i obtained my electronic copy without cost. In the updated engine I use to read it, the module for "the Message" is no longer free. So if I copied and distributed my copy of the module, I could be liable for illegally distributing the Word of God. Not because the Word is restricted, but because somebody[s] thinks that they deserve some sort of monetary justification to allow you to read /their/ version of Gods word. Several versions have this property. The only reason to require payment for a bible *should* be to cover Media costs (paper, disks) and distribution costs (retail markup, server overhead) and/or if you had to take out a loan to do the translation work. Which is dumb - there are countless organizations that would donate you a closet so you could translate the bible, as long as you asked nicely. Make Scripture free. Its the right thing to do.

Um...this is a really really really long post. Sorry. Have fun.

Mat 18:4 Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God's kingdom.

Mat 18:5 What's more, when you receive the childlike on my account, it's the same as receiving me.

Mat 18:6 "But if you give them a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't. You'd be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck.

Mat 18:7 Doom to the world for giving these God-believing children a hard time! Hard times are inevitable, but you don't have to make it worse--and it's doomsday to you if you do.

Mat 18:8 "If your hand or your foot gets in the way of God, chop it off and throw it away. You're better off maimed or lame and alive than the proud owners of two hands and two feet, godless in a furnace of eternal fire.

Mat 18:9 And if your eye distracts you from God, pull it out and throw it away. You're better off one-eyed and alive than exercising your twenty-twenty vision from inside the fire of hell.

Mat 18:10 "Watch that you don't treat a single one of these childlike believers arrogantly. You realize, don't you, that their personal angels are constantly in touch with my Father in heaven?

Mat 18:12 "Look at it this way. If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn't he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one?

Mat 18:13 And if he finds it, doesn't he make far more over it than over the ninety-nine who stay put?
Mat 18:14 Your Father in heaven feels the same way. He doesn't want to lose even one of these simple believers.

Mat 18:15 "If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him--work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you've made a friend.

---try #1. Remember this is about rectification of wrongdoing. Forgiveness is something you do inside you. Going to someone else is about correcting a problem, and you may need to forgive them in order to be able to have a civil discussion, but this proceedure is not instructions on forgiveness. Just remember to forgive the person at every step. The reason is more appearant by the end.

Mat 18:16 If he won't listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again.

---try #2. with acountability

Mat 18:17 If he still won't listen, tell the church. If he won't listen to the church, you'll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer again God's forgiving love.

---try #3. with authority. If the 3rd confrontation fails to provide resolution, then start as though they dont understand what is right, and need absolute education. Even though they should have done right the first try, after the third do not just poke 'em in the eye and leave 'em for idiot. Not willing that any should perish or be left, remember.

Mat 18:18 "Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this.

--- Cautions - dont shoot off your mouth from the hip. words are not empty - do not open your mouth lightly

Mat 18:19 When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.

Mat 18:20 And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there."

--- encouragement. We're gonna need some after we give someone 3 chances and then start over and do it again without results.

Mat 18:21 At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, "Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?"

--- ?!? Seven!? i thought just the three was going to be hard on my preception of procedure.

Mat 18:22 Jesus replied, "Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times seven.

--- oh, endlessly. An initial wrongdoing, a chance for reconciliation... an /endless/ chance for reconciliation. Without malice, without regret. no wonder the Lord called it a cross when he said to take it up and follow Him.

Mat 18:23 "The kingdom of God is like a king who decided to square accounts with his servants.

Mat 18:24 As he got under way, one servant was brought before him who had run up a debt of a hundred thousand dollars.

Mat 18:25 He couldn't pay up, so the king ordered the man, along with his wife, children, and goods, to be auctioned off at the slave market.

Mat 18:26 "The poor wretch threw himself at the king's feet and begged, 'Give me a chance and I'll pay it all back.'

Mat 18:27 Touched by his plea, the king let him off, erasing the debt.

Mat 18:28 "The servant was no sooner out of the room when he came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him ten dollars. He seized him by the throat and demanded, 'Pay up. Now!'

Mat 18:29 "The poor wretch threw himself down and begged, 'Give me a chance and I'll pay it all back.'

Mat 18:30 But he wouldn't do it. He had him arrested and put in jail until the debt was paid.

Mat 18:31 When the other servants saw this going on, they were outraged and brought a detailed report to the king.

Mat 18:32 "The king summoned the man and said, 'You evil servant! I forgave your entire debt when you begged me for mercy.

--- and now we feel stupid. Redemption from all unrighteousness, and we can still carry malice? Whats wrong with us? are we blind? do we not see? is the book wrong? There is little evidence against the book - it is complete in its scope and exemplary in standard. Which gives creedence to the feelings of stupid. Great, now we are insulting ourselves. Wonder if its harder to forgive yourself than to forgive someone you can walk away from?

Mat 18:33 Shouldn't you be compelled to be merciful to your fellow servant who asked for mercy?'

--- "compelled" is a good word. a sort of "forced to go along with". Not a "follow the example" but a "you arent being shown how - just do this thing along with me".

Mat 18:34 The king was furious and put the screws to the man until he paid back his entire debt.

---interesting translation. Accurate in most extent, but our language seems weak in conveying concepts. it should be more like "The king was raging furious and personally threw the dude into the dungeon with all the creepy proding, poking, dismemberish inhumane dungeonkeeper dungeon stuff until his debt was paid." The modern meaning of "put the screws" doesn't conjure the image that it would have 1500 to 2000 years ago.

Mat 18:35 And that's exactly what my Father in heaven is going to do to each one of you who doesn't forgive unconditionally anyone who asks for mercy."

--- Ooooh. ouch. Better get this one figured out. And I don't see the "anyone who asks for mercy" part actually being there. Original text is more along the scope of "you with your heart forgive the other person every stumbling of themselves".

Blindness to Relationship

Why do we not understand love?

Why do we forget how love can consume our existence? Is the 139th Psalm a broad-overview statement of clinical omnipresence; or is it the song of a heart so drowned in love that the heart's lover is so inescapable even hell can not take Love's Raptured Presence away?

So we hate and kill like abused, lovesick dogs. Not even comprehending love songs when they are scripted before us. Script is an interesting word, defined as "write". It is more than that - it is the essence of conveyable action. Theater or screen scripts are the skeleton of the life and emotion that the story /breathes/. Computer scripts are the texts that govern bits and streams of process to perform powerful operations with minimal opportunity of randomization. So a script is a picture of action (including emotion).

And still we approach emotion like it doesn't exist. When the psalmist writes, "when I awake, I am still with thee" or, "Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!" or, "I have waked, and I am still with Thee" or, "When I awake, I am still with thee," there is some strength in a wager that there is no disgruntled animosity between the scriptor and the one being addressed. Reading the passage recently, it vividly reminded me of waking and looking across the bed at the one I love, and thinking, "you are still here" in words and "I love you" in emotion. What if this Psalm is the same: not an observance of the Presence of an omnipresent God that is presented by far too much tradition of Church and Creed and Theological Idiot-ness; but a song of emotion and love and stirring in the heart of someone so deep in a personal relationship that even in the wildest fantasy the Love is still more vivid than dawn-light sun burning color back into the night world, or than brain warping concepts like time. There is color in the script; emotion, love, and passion. Why do we treat everything like a science textbook babbling on about flaming balls of gas when we should be looking at (or at least remembering) the carpet of coloured gems that we call stars in the sky above us?

Truth and Perfection

...don't quit me now.

Language is interesting - this is a plea, a prayer. The phrase is both appropriate to a leader addressing underlings, or to a servant to their master, or even a commandant to a one or to the organization over them.

...abandon not what your hands have built.

The same original phrase, worded differently. not quite the same diversity of appropriate application. a different perspective.

...the works of your hands let not fall.

Closer to the original text. Kind of brings a moment of wonder. maybe a meaning of "endure what you have created", but not quite so dismal.

In context the reference addresses that which is incomplete or basic or under construction after a fashion; an item that is working to be refined, even perfected. Why should we strive to perfection? Why expend our energies toward an absolute and irrefutable standard?

There is only one reason: Perfection is the greatest state that can be achieved. To waste, earn, live, excel, strive toward or accomplish any other goal is to obtain less than absolute, less than the best, and less than potential. No matter how beyond us perfection is, if perfection is not our potential then we are deteriorating.

Deterioration occurs when things become less than what they are. If we only work toward easily obtainable goals then we have created a "good enough" complacency that does not expand our potential and does not grow our abilities. We improve by doing the impossible. A six minute mile. The speed of sound. These were impossibilities that once were. Now it happens every day. Or every day that someone tries.

So now we have two points.

Point 1: Absolutes, Perfection.

Point 2: Surpassing the limits of "impossible".

The phrases "irrefutable standard" and "doing the impossible" seem antonyms unless they describe two different things. They do describe two different things, but we have the complex task of determining what is actually a boundary and what is actually perfection. What is already a proper matter of balance, and what needs to change?

The most important beginning is the matter of absolutes. The best course to steer through, as a metaphor. Once you have a concept of perfection everything else is the impossible that can be changed. The irony of it all is most people consider perfection to be impossible, and choose to live somewhere in the meaningless fog that exists without a standard course. In truth you must set perfection as your ultimate goal, and then alter the impossible to make the stepping stones appear toward perfection.

This is all well and good until someone has a flawed or changeable view of perfection. Then begins to change the wrong boundaries of "impossible" to reach the point of their perfection.

So how do we find the true and universally correct standard of perfection? We observe, extrapolate (or theorize), observe to support of disprove our extrapolation, repeat if necessary, and then compare the results of different standards of "perfection".

So we will assume (with reasonable fact and observation to support) that throughout the towering climaxes and plummeting falls, somewhere the human race has begun to repeat itself over and over again, so perfection is either completely foreign to us or has existed sometime in our past. If true perfection is absolutely foreign to the human race we have a long and very difficult road to travel, so we will assume that somewhere in our attempts to eradicate ourself of the plague we see in our mirror [namely ourselves, frequently in the form of harming our fellows - our brothers and sisters] we have had access to the principles of true perfection at some juncture.

If we had access to Perfection, we just need to find what we did with it. So pick likely candidates from schools of thought. Look through the principles of these schools - not the never ending debates of what the fine details mean, but the effects on the common subscriber, the extremist, and the opponent of each school of thought. Draw a conclusion of what this could look like if it is employed to govern more than about 6000 people. Then find documentation, data, and research about what happened when the school of thought was applied to a large number of people. Compare each school of thought, and then ask which one resulted in the greatest benefit to everyone involved (including opponents). What reached the greatest success in curbing humanity's fascination with destroying itself or those around it, and each individual's tendency for the same?

What is truth? Truth is the answer. Truth is Perfection.

order

Pseudo-random. Meaning false random, which is actually the only random. because all manner of things are affected by their surroundings, affect the future of their surroundings, and are affected by the very sequence of deriving the random. And stuff. Ok i ran out of idea really quick.

But the cat says "me-e-ew" in a cat sort of voice. I dont think she likes the way i rearranged the living room piles of junk. But since she's smaller than most of the stuff and sleeps a lot of the time anyway, she can enjoy her cat-bed. Which i didnt move. Not that it matters - she would rather sniff everything else that is stacked differently than it was last time she sniffed it. I think i'll go edit some of the settings in the control panel.

I dont exist. Until someone opens the box. Unless it is you in the box. Then you would not exist, though a high probability exists that you could be found there. But if you are not there, and i write about you, then you could be there. Even in a way you weren't. Thats called propaganda, or fantasy. The fabrication of a reality that would never have existed if it had not been created. Watching television the other night there seemed to be an extravaganza of really twisted sounding movies that you could watch and implant their really twisted and even grotesque realities into your existance.

So i wonder, does that really benefit me or you as an individual, or us as a society, or the broader greatness of us as the human race? Is the attrocities that occur every hour in our world not enough? Is the potential crumblings of our preceived safeties and security not sufficiently disillusional to our minds? Why does man create? To better himself... or to simply change what was?

How wrong is it to proclaim that we desire peace, justice, and equity and still can find the resources within our clouded and murky souls to finance horrific fantasy in the guise of entertainment. It is a knife with no handle. To hold it is to bleed yourself, to weaken your existance, and to compromise anything good that you are or beleive. And while it is wrong to turn away when horror happens to our friends, our neighbors or our fellow persons on another continent of the globe, We should never watch - We should act. Stand as a leader that can be followed; to prevent a bully beating some kid for lunch money; an organizer to teach the unpriviledged; a humanitarian to bring food and water; a voice to bring truth; a symbol of who we /should/ be. Not a passive degenerate of who we are. If we all try to reach the wholly unattainable goal of perfection, then we will begin to see small improvements in ourselves, in others and we can encourage each other to be true to what is good and not to waste our kindness by hypocrasy, fantastic escapes we conjure to our screens, and just plain passifism. Passivity. Whatever you want to call it. Wrongness. Make the world better, and start with your own brain, your own head. Exist like you mean it to be better. Think and act outside the box.

T-shirt ideas

So: in the pseudo-random world of my mind, occasionally there are generated one-liners of the sort that could be displayed for the sole purpose of generating thought, invoking conversation or avoiding the blankness of a plain t-shirt. These are not good for bumper stickers: they have words. Bumper stickers should only contain pictures or less than about 4 words printed large and in plain lettering. The reason for this is that people generally get annoyed, frightened or otherwise peeved when (as you drive down the road, highway or parking lot) you position your vehicle in such a way as to view their stickers and maintain that attitude for the duration of the time needed to partake of their witticisms, political viewpoints, outrages and humor. If you missed the last sentence, read this carefully: "If someone must tailgate you long enough to cross a small town to read your stickers, the stickers probably shouldn't be visible to the environment around you". Put 'em on the dash so your passengers can appreciate it and not cause a road hazard.

OK. Enough soapboxing. So if you want to know what i was thinking when i logged on to post, it is this:

t-shirt 1:
1984
is your lucky number.
Its watching you everywhere

If you didnt get that, please brush up on your George Orwell then avoid detailed technology news reports dealing with technology so your don't need psych meds. And abstain from repetitious redundancy. And never use a long word when a diminutive one will do.

t-shirt 2:
Take God out of cussing
and put God back in schools

[which is political, and religious, and will with great probability get a responce in a great number of political or religious or educational venues. Since those are great forums of controversy, and rightly so: those arenas shape our present, our perception of the past, and (consequently and most ominously) our future.]

Your fellow humans, your children, and your enemies: these are the greatest things you have at your disposal if you are a member of any society. Choose them well, educate them carefully, and always teach above the level where you falsely think your students are capable. Every person starts out brilliant - please refrain from teaching stupidity. And I'm soapboxing again. Give a person a keyboard and sometimes they just can't stop.

Use your own brain. :)

So after creating this blog last night and posting on it, i gave the url for it to my wife (and didn't tell anything but the url - sometimes i'm a communication minimalist, with all the drawbacks that can create). So she pulls up the blog on her computer, and starts reading. So she says something along the lines of "wow, you found someone who thinks just like you!"

But then she realized the poster was using my own brain.
great fun, and los of laughs. Or rather, lots of laughs. Loss of them would be sad, and not the amusing happiness i inteded to express.

Entry 00 (since 1 is the second number)

A moment of thought can change nothing: Actions can change eternity.

Why does it take so long to upload 388mb?

Why is raggedy anne's nose triangular?

What if the meaning of life is to ask "why"?

Life is all about the journey. Which is good, since the end lacks a relevant marketing department. Although i like the bit in the bible about "Life which swallows up mortality"(loosely paraphrased). Which means that the mortal aren't really living. Only the Truely Glorified are. Forever wrapped in consuming worship. Thats what Life is all about.
